Fleet Feet, Mandell JCC and Team Training New England combine efforts to offer a first-ever Workout Gear Swap

Turning Spring Cleaning into Spring Training
Tuesday, May 17
6:00-9:00 p.m.

How many people have closets or garages containing exercise equipment, clothing or gadgets that are now gathering dust.  Whether they don’t fit anymore or just fell out of favor, they’re still perfectly usable…for someone else.

For one night and for a good cause, people will be able to bring they gently used workout gear to the first-ever Gear Swap at the Mandell JCC in West Hartford.  Organized by Fleet Feet, the Mandell JCC and Team Training New England, this swap is a great opportunity for people to find items they no longer wear or use and trade them for ones they ones that they will.

One of the event organizers was inspired by her oversized collection of running jackets.  “How many jackets did I really need?  Some of them are really nice, but have been replaced in the pecking order…so they sit there, yearning to be worn...by someone else, “ she said when describing the basic idea behind the gear swap.

Bike pumps, tennis racquets, swim fins, skis and yoga mats are just a few ideas of the items people can bring or find at this green-minded event.

Here is how the swap will work:

We will be accepting gear from 6-7 p.m.  Gently used and laundered adult workout clothes (no kids clothes please), bike pumps, watches, tennis raquets, swim fins, yoga mats are just a few of the items you can bring to this green-minded event.  For each piece of gear you donate, you will get a ticket – up to a maximum of 5 tickets (you can bring more than 5 items – but will only get 5 tickets).
ALL GEAR MUST BE DROPPED OFF BY 7 P.M. NO EXCEPTIONS!

You are also welcome to bring bikes (kids and adult), golf clubs, skis and other high-end items to sell during the Swap.   A small percentage of this sale will be given to the Mandell JCC Scholarship Fund.

From 7-9 p.m., we will call out ticket numbers in random order.  When your number is called, you can pick out the item you want.

While you wait for your numbers to be called, you can enjoy wine and beer tasting courtesy of Toast Wines with Slocum and Sons and Thomas Hooker Brewery, middle eastern vegetarian food, massages and learn bike skills like fixing a flat and achieving the right fit from the experts at Bloomfield Bike, Bicycle Cellars, Newington Bike and Central Wheel.

Whatever is left over at the end of the night will be donated to IRIS, Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services and Hartford’s Capitol Prep High School’s Track Team.

In addition, all adult and kids bikes that cannot be sold or swapped can be donated to the Hot Spot Bike in Hartford.  Check out this link, it’s a video about this amazing group of Hartford students!
